NEWCASTLE COMMUNITY CENTRE – INSTRUCTIONS FOR STEWARDS
1. General
a. You are responsible by law for ensuring that the provisions of the Public Entertainment Licence for the evening are met are met and that in the event of an emergency those attending are cared for promptly and efficiently. Note the main provisions of the Public Entertainment Licence:
b. Timings The event may last until 1:00am. Cessation of music and entertainment must take place by that time. The bar must close at 12.30am and the door closed at 1:30am.
c. Numbers The maximum number of people allowed for the various areas of the centre is displayed on the Licence displayed in the Reception area.
d. Entry If yours is a ticketed public function all those attending must purchase a ticket to obtain entry, with no entry allowed after 11pm. People under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult for a licensed public function and will not be served alcohol.
e. Nuisance The event must not cause public nuisance.
2. Guidance As instructed by the event organiser, you are to: • Supervise entry for ticketed events. If yours is a private party, please note the maximum numbers allowed and watch out for gatecrashers.
• Keep an eye on the bar and underage drinking
• Ensure that fire doors are kept closed throughout the event and only opened if you wish to evacuate the centre in an emergency. This is to minimise the noise disturbance within the village. The front door to the centre should closed unless people are entering or leaving, it should not be propped open.
• Supervise departure at the end of the evening to ensure that noise is kept to the minimum in the carpark, doors are closed by 1:30am and the carpark is clear of cars.
3. Emergencies
• A medical first aid kit is held behind the bar. Please ask the barman.
• Fire extinguishers are placed appropriately around the building. For a small fire move quickly to put it out and clear the building if there is any smoke hazard. For a serious fire evacuate the building quickly ensuring that lavatories are checked. Instruct family parties to check their numbers. Call the Fire Service using the telephone which is located behind the bar. Note – there is poor mobile coverage in Newcastle.
